Previously, the FFL had only been active in Togo in the field of health, through the AAT-FFL community health programme.

It was not until 2022 that the FFL and the AAT-FFL expanded their work to the vocational training sector, with the construction of the Anié Apprenticeship Centre. This centre aims to promote the socio-economic integration of young people who have dropped out of school, are disadvantaged or in vulnerable situations in the Plateaux region.

Opened in December 2023, the centre welcomed its first cohort of young learners, who were trained in three specialisms: aluminium joinery, soft clothing tailoring and women’s braided hairstyling. In 2025, training activities continued with an average of 45 trainees.

The courses combined theory, practical work and workshop placements, following a dual training approach that enabled young people to develop skills directly tailored to the needs of the local labour market. Work placements were also organised to enhance their experience and facilitate their integration into the workforce.

Throughout the year, the AAT-FFL carried out regular monitoring of the centre through a number of field visits, helping to ensure that activities ran smoothly and contributing to the continuous improvement of educational and administrative management. Trainers also benefited from capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the quality of their supervision.

In 2025, particular attention was paid to preparing learners for the Apprenticeship Completion Certificate examination, as well as to strengthening collaboration with the education authorities, with a view to the Ministry gradually taking over the management of the centre from 2026 onwards.

Overall, 2025 saw the centre consolidate its achievements and enhance the quality of its training, thereby helping to better prepare young people for their social and professional integration.
